What is Reformer Pilates?

Originally invented by Joseph Pilates, he devised the method of Pilates for exercising and body conditioning. Joseph Pilates was a nurse in the early 20th century and decided to attach springs to hospital beds, with the aim of helping patients exercise with resistance-ultimately creating the Pilates reformer bed.

These days there are numerous Pilates Reformer beds out there, but the fundamentals remain the same: resistance exercise based around the key Pilates principles of Centering, Control, Concentration, Precision, Breathing and Flow.

Who is Reformer Pilates For?

In a nutshell-everyone! It is a low impact style of resistance training meaning there is minimal impact on joints. There are a vast number of benefits from exercising using the Pilates reformer beds but to list a few:

  • Increase muscle tone and endurance
  • Improve coordination and balance
  • Enhance posture and prevent injury
  • Strengthen your core and learning which muscles to engage when
  • Help you recover from an injury
  • Lose weight
  • Improve your balance, bone density and posture
  • Reduce back pain

Who can participate in a class?

We have introduced a wide range of classes you can access on the timetable, including some "Intro to Reformer" classes for those who have never done reformer Pilates classes before. However, even if you are "brand new" to the world of Reformer Pilates just let one of our friendly, professional instructors know and they will happily cater to your needs. We have designed our timetable to meet demands of our clientele around the popular hours, including early morning, after school drop off, lunchtime and evening hours after work and weekends. 

What about special conditions and injuries?

It is always recommended that you seek medical advice from your general practitioner before you embark on any exercise regime. Provided you have medical clearance, reformer Pilates is suitable for many conditions such as diabetes, heart disease, elevated blood pressure, pregnancy or musculoskeletal conditions. We strongly advise that you inform your instructor of any such conditions or concerns at the beginning of the class so they can best cater for your specific needs.

What else do I need to know?

  • Classes are an additional cost of $35 per class for non-members and $25 for members. We also offer 10 packs, $200 for members/$300 for non-members
  • Classes are capped at 10 reformer beds, ideal to facilitate that cozy and comprehensive experience
  • Once a class time has reached the maximum participants allowed, it will no longer show as being available. You can search and choose other class times.
  • After submitting a booking, you will receive an email confirming your class booking
  • Bookings can be cancelled up to 2 hours prior. There is no refund however, we can happily credit your missed class for a future class
  • You can book classes up to 7 days in advance
  • Classes run for 45 minutes, this includes a warmup and cool down
  • All participants need to bring either a towel, Pilates reformer mat and CLEAN Pilates or Yoga style grip socks
  • It is recommended all participants bring their own water bottle
  • Please plan to arrive 5 to 10 minutes prior to a class, especially if you are brand new to Reformer Pilates training
  • No late arrivals will be allowed to participate in classes
